Road to cycling success
With parents who were both successful in track cycling, Dylan van Baarle (1992) got introduced to cycling at an early age. Not surprisingly, Dylan wanted to pursue a career on the road as well, and it soon became clear that the cycling genes of his parents were also abundantly present in him. In both the juniors and the rookies, he finished second at the Dutch Time Trial Championships.
For the win
In 2011, Dylan made his professional debut with the Rabobank Continental Team. He then rode for Team Cannondale-Garmin from 2014 to 2017. For that team, he became overall winner of the Tour of Britain in 2014. In 2018, he switched to team INEOS-Grenadiers. There, successes followed in rapid succession: in 2018, Dylan became Dutch time trial champion. In 2019, he was overall winner of the Herald Sun Tour and won the final stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. In 2021, he won his first spring classic with Dwars door Vlaanderen. In the same year Van Baarle also finished second at the World Championships in Leuven.
In 2022, Dylan finished second in the Tour of Flanders. Two weeks later, he achieved the biggest victory of his career up to that point: he won Paris-Roubaix after a solo of more than 19 kilometres, in the fastest edition in the history of that race (45.8 km/h average) up to that point. At the end of that year, Dylan was awarded the Gerrit Schulte Trophy for being the best Dutch professional cyclist.
Versatile cyclist
That string of awards attracted the attention of Team Jumbo-Visma, the world's No 1 cycling team. There, he secured a three-year contract. He immediately fulfilled his promise, winning the Flemish opening classic Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in early 2023 and crowning himself Dutch Champion in June that year. The future looks promising.
